The new year is here, and honestly, I’m feeling really good about it. I talked a little bit in my last post about how I’ve never been happier, and that’s making me quite excited about all that could come to life over the next twelve months.
In the midst of feeling so great about everything in general and getting ready for the new year, I worked through the PowerSheets Prep Week last month, and came down to some great goals for this year! Since I’d gotten into the habit of sharing these last year, I wanted to keep that up!
For my goals this year I focused on setting a few big, themed goals that included little things I could do throughout each month!
Goal 1: Live with intention
Why: Because the one that that truly matters is family, and I want to be intentionally enjoying the time we have together and making memories.
One of the challenging things about 2018 was that my husband was deployed for so much of the year, and although it wasn’t all at once, it still made me value the time we have together so much more. This year may look a little differently in terms of his schedule, but I still want to focus on having fun and making memories together.
Starting Steps:
- Cook dinner together
- Play with Zoey in the back yard
- Go on walks as a family
Goal 2: Love others well
Why: I’m not always super consistent in showing up in relationships with other people, and I want to get better at that. I also want to make sure I’m setting a good example for Emma.
I truly love connecting with and loving on other people, but my biggest problem is that I don’t do this consistently. I don’t open my heart to many people, and even when I do I generally get caught up in the day-to-day and forget to make it a priority to check in with them – especially if we live far apart. I’m hoping that this year I can work on that.
Starting Steps:
- Add birthdays to my calendar
- Ask questions to encourage conversation
- Pick a charity to give to for January
Goal 3: Consistently practice self-care
Why: I tend to put myself and my needs / wants on the back burner so I can get more done or help other people. However, I need to make sure I’m taking care of myself.
I had this as a goal last year, and I’m bringing it into this year as well. I want to continue to make time for myself, especially while my husband is home. I don’t have a lot of variety in my ideas for this big goal, but I know that it’s little things that will add up over time to become my habitual self-care.
Starting Steps:
- Make time for reading
- Start going for walks again
- Treat myself
Goal 4: Grow Coded Creative
Why: My desire is to replace my 1:1 income by growing CC so in the day-to-day I have more freedom and less stress / frustration.
I talked a lot about this one in my last post, so I won’t go too much into detail here, but in case you missed it: I took over CC all on my own, and my goal is to grow the products offered and the income so I can continue to be selective with 1:1 design clients I take on.
Starting Steps:
- Run Facebook Ads this month
- Send an audience survey
- Work through Zoe’s Affiliate Toolkit
Goal 5: Create with joy / Have fun
Why: So I don’t get too sucked up into work. I also want another outlet for my creativity than just being on the computer, reading, or watching tv.
This one is another goal I’m bringing from last year. I did somewhat good with this in terms of my blog last year, but I want to expand on that and do different things that will bring me joy and just encourage me to have fun all around.
Starting Steps:
- Write this blog post :)
- Transform my Instagram to be more personal content (YAY!)
- Dance / sing / play with Emma
That’s it! You can see my January goals in my Tending List in the photo at the beginning of this post! I’ll be back to share more goals at the beginning of February!
If you’ve set goals for this year, I’d love to hear them in the comments!
