When we bought our current house, we had a pretty good feeling of a handful of things that were going to need to be upgraded while we were living here or at least before we sold the house. One of those things is our hallway bathroom. It’s the main bathroom in the house (since our master bathroom doesn’t have a door.. don’t get me started), so it gets a lot of traffic. Unfortunately, the wear from the previous owners is pretty prevalent, and we’re thinking this summer is when we finally bite the bullet and update things.
If you read my June Goals post, then you know that we’re just getting started in terms of figuring out how much everything will cost and when and how we want to do it all (spoiler alert: we sure as heck are not DIY’ing all of this). Our first major question was the bathtub / shower! My in-laws actually used a Bath Fitter, so last week we had a free consultation to see what we were looking at cost wise for that.
The rest of the bathroom, though, is where things get interesting. First, it’s a small bathroom. There won’t be any fancy shelving or big vanity – there’s just not room for it. Second, the rest of the house is very traditional, which actually isn’t super surprising to me. Because of that, we’re looking at doing something a little more traditional that won’t stand out too much from the rest of the house or be the fanciest room in the house.
So here are some of the notes I’m making about inspiration:
- Curved shower curtain for sure. Am I the only one in the world that thinks this is legit the fanciest thing in the world? It always feels like a luxury in hotel rooms! Ha!
- Potentially smaller vanity. Thinking about this, but not 100% sold. Also need to inquire about the plumbing situation if we go smaller.
- Traditional colored vanity and mirror. I would love white or navy or grey, but it won’t work here. So we’re looking at our options and considering the other bathroom and kitchen cabinetry.
- Shelves above the toilet. I don’t guess I ever shared a photo from the guest bathroom in our old house (this is some of the decor), but we have the shelves from there that I’m going to install here. I like how it adds an extra spot for decor / storage.
As of now, we’re pretty sure about the style as far as the wall color, vanity, and mirror. However, I have no clue what we’re going to do for the floor.
If you guys are interested, I’ll share the process of getting this bathroom redone (and with a 7 month old). If nothing else, I’ll at least try to share the finished results!
