Ah, we’re almost into the middle of October, my maternity leave starts next week, and I’m just loving all things Fall right about now. Something that the cooler weather seems to bring out in everyone is reading, am I right? I feel like we all dream of curling up with a warm drink, a cozy blanket, and a good book. I know I’ve been doing more of that over the last few weeks even though the weather still isn’t quite as cool as I wish it was around here.
If I’m being honest, though, my reading goal this year took a major backseat. I don’t know if it’s the fact that I took on a huge new thing this year (the podcast) or what, but I set a goal to read 45 books this year. As of today, I’ve officially read 12. It’s pretty sad. I will say that I did spend a majority of the year reading the Mayo Clinic’s book about pregnancy, which I didn’t even realize was over 600 pages. Whew! As we head deeper into Fall and now the Halloween season, I thought it would be fun to share some of the books that have been on my reading list with you guys today.
You’ll notice all of these books have one thing in common: they’re in the mystery / suspense / thriller genre. This is one of my favorite genres that I got really into last year thanks to Abby. I’m so happy I found her on Instagram whenever I did because it really opened my eyes to the genre and all of the really good books that are out there. If you’re into the creepy genre as I affectionately call it or want to get into it, definitely check out Abby’s blog and also my reviews on GoodReads. I try to note in my reviews which books are good for who.
I’ve already read The River at Night; I actually finished it just last week. It’s a pretty fast paced read, which is always my favorite, especially when I’m trying to build up momentum with my reading habit again. I give it 4/5 stars because it definitely had some twists and turns that I wasn’t expecting. I also really liked the ending. If anyone out there is looking for a good introduction book to the thriller genre, this is a good one! It’s got some dark spots in it, but I’d say it’s still a good one if you’re looking to read your first real suspenseful book.

Would you guys be interested in seeing a round up in a month or so of the books I’ve been reading and enjoyed? I always enjoy hearing what other people think about the books I want to read, but I don’t want to load you guys down with book recommendations if y’all aren’t into it!
P.s. What good books have you read lately? I love this genre, but I’m always open to general and teen fiction as well, so share your recent reads in the comments!
