It’s June, y’all. I still can’t believe it. Around here, now that summer is really coming on, we’ve been drinking water like crazy, and unfortunately the walks with Zoey have slowed down since it’s warm with high humidity by 8 o’clock on the morning. We’re not letting that get us down though. We’ve been trying to do stuff inside and make the most of the mornings that don’t feel awful by hanging out outside or going for a quick walk.
Anyway, last month’s goals went so much better than April’s goals. I think it’s partially because instead of setting goals to accomplish many things quickly, I took a step back and wrote some goals for May that more aligned with what I felt like doing as well as realizing that some things don’t happen overnight. So, here’s how last month went:
Read 5 books– Done! As I mentioned Tuesday, last month I read six books. I’m really proud of that number, but I’m not going to try to keep up with that amount every month. It really goes to show that you accomplish things that you make time for because I partially accomplished this goal because I was more focused on actually doing it. Record Better Blogging class– Done! I ended up sitting down the afternoon after I picked up Zoey from her boarding and recorded this while she was sleeping. As with anything done the first time, I feel like it could have been a bit better; however, in the nature of just doing it, I’m putting it out there! You can actually sign up to take the class right here. The details are all over on that page, so I encourage y’all to check it out. Create an editorial calendar for my email list– Done! The number one thing I’ve struggled with this year has been what to write to my lovely email list. For the last year I’ve tried really hard to make the content unique and not just a send out of things that are going on or posts that you can just read on this blog. By creating this list, I’ve already been able to start a more consistent schedule, and I’m looking forward to sharing some tips on this later this month! Find a local hair stylist+ get hair trimmed / possible color touch up – Partially done! I’ve found a couple of local salons that I’m trying to narrow down to figure out which one I want to go to. Now it’s all about just actually making the appointment. With it being so warm and muggy here I’m definitely not trying to have my hair grow out quite long again, so I’m going to be trying to get it taken care of in the next few weeks.
Whew! What a month. I’m happy that these goals were, for the most part, accomplished, even though they were fairly light. I don’t believe that you should have to set monumental monthly goals just because it looks or seems like everyone else is. Instead, focus on what you can and want to do. That’s the theme I’m carrying into this month as well, so let’s look at this month’s goals:
- Do yoga three times a week – I’ve done yoga several times in the past but one thing or another leads me to letting it go. With it warming up and getting all humid here it’s getting harder to want to go for a walk with Zoey. I’m hoping to ease back into a yoga routine this month as a way to keep active, even if just a little bit.
- Get curtains for the living / dining room – Okay, so listen to this. The sun sets on the side of the house that our living room is on, and we watch a lot of our shows (like Game of Thrones, Blacklist, and now Justified) in the evening while we eat dinner and relax. Unfortunately, that means we have awful glares on the tv until the sun sets low enough that it’s not a problem. I’m so over it, honestly. Time to get some curtains!
- Pitch 1-2 guest posts – When I launched my first ebook, Idea To Launch, I did it all wrong. I had no marketing plan for it, and thus the sales suffered. I know that Craft Your Brand is going to be more valuable than ITL, so I’m really trying to make sure I start out on the right foot with it. This means creating a plan to get attention and interest for it before it launches. I’ve already got one post that’ll be going live probably this month around the same topic, and I’d ideally love to get 1-2 more before the pre-order launch date. We’ll see!
- Set a launch date for Craft Your Brand – So with that last goal, comes this one! Set an official date for the launch of Craft Your Brand. I’ve been trying to get some writing and formatting done for the book here and there, collect questions to include in the worksheets, and read loads of posts about things to do better when launching an ebook. I think I have the pre-order launch date and regular launch dates set, but I’m not going to announce anything until I’m absolutely certain. I know that setting a date in my calendar will kick my butt into gear on getting this thing finished, which is why I’m setting this as a major goal this month!
Whew! There y’all have it. I’m feeling really good about things this month, so I’m excited to see how I do on these goals (hopefully, well). I’m also hoping to start that summer business reading list this month (will you be reading with me?).
